Before the war, grandfather Lucio came from the village to work as a waiter in a shop. Shortly afterwards he opened a grocers shop in Abada street on the corner of Salud. A shell destroyed the building during the war, the proximity to the telephone line made the area a military target. The shop was re-established in the same street, Calle Salud, with the entrance on Calle Tres Cruces. At the beginning of the 1960s, the construction of a car park in the Plaza del Carmen destroyed the market and several nearby buildings, including this second shop. The COVID has totally ruined the business. We are surrounded by hotels, offices and tourist flats. The clientele that continues to come, and to whom we are grateful for their loyalty, allows us to keep the business open and pay the rent and only part of the expenses, which is why we have been putting in money since March from savings that have almost disappeared.
