Interview to the commerce

When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

The selection of products we make.

The friendly and personal service.

Mamá Elba is much more than an ice cream parlour.

We are open all year round and we have much more than just ice cream.

We want our customers to feel special in any of our two shops in Madrid.

Interview to the commerce

What is the history of your commerce?

Mamá Elba was born from an idea of Rafael and Elba. Rafa always had the dream of owning a restaurant, although he is a business consultant. Elba has always worked in press and communication and when she became unemployed the idea of Mamá Elba was born.

We are a family business in which we especially value our team. Most of them, besides having already worked in the hotel and catering business, have another vocation, there are artists, painters, psychologists, teachers, dancers and students who, while waiting for the opportunity to live their dreams, work with dedication in the ice cream parlour. Without them we would not be able to maintain the spirit of Mamá Elba, education, good work and smiles.

So our name reflects what we want to transmit: security, tenderness and love, as a mother would.

What is your professional experience?

We opened our first shop in the Chamberí neighbourhood, on Calle Cea Bermúdez, 29, 4 years ago. We opened our second shop just a year later in La Latina, calle de la Ruda, 15.

We are a small family business. Its hard to get ahead with an SME... but we have high hopes for our two shops.

How has covid 19 affected your business?

We have been closed from the moment of the alarm until 9 May when we were encouraged to open with all the precautions and security measures required. Of course our workers have all been in an ERTE and we asked for an ICO credit to try to help them until they were not paid by the state and to pay suppliers... etc.

We are trying, like all small businesses, to reinvent ourselves and try to survive.
