Horchateria Alboraya
Interview to the commerce

When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

We are a family from Alboraya, Valencia, where we grow the tiger nut from which we then make horchata. We have been located in Calle Alcalá since June 1980 and in Av. Felipe II since 2009. It is in the premises in Calle Alcalá where we have our horchata, ice cream, meringue milk, slushies, etc.
We use tigernut milk with Denomination of Origin of Valencia and the best ingredients to maintain our quality since ever.
We like to maintain the customs and traditions of such special products as horchata with fartons and leche merengada.

What is the history of your commerce?

At the beginning of opening the first shop we only produced horchata, meringue milk, barley water and lemon granita. Such was the success of these products that production was extended to ice cream after two years.
We have seen several generations of customers and we are proud of their affection and loyalty.
We have always grown tigernuts in the family fields in Alboraya, but this new adventure of opening a Horchateria in Madrid began in June 1980. Now it is the children of the founders who continue to run the business.

What is your professional experience?

We have always lived in the family business

How has covid 19 affected your business?

In terms of capacity, of course. But thanks to the fact that our clientele is mainly national and from the neighbourhood, we are managing to work, although sales are down by about 30%.
We have lost sales to tourists and sales associated with events at nearby theatres and venues such as the WiZink Center.
