When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

We are unique in the type of trade, of which there are none left. We are dedicated to basketry and esparto grass, which includes the manufacture of made-to-measure baskets of national wicker, wooden and esparto grass blinds, cordage (hemp and sisal ropes), cork stoppers, natural fibre rugs and doormats, brushes and brooms made of palm and millet, etc.
Also the restoration of chairs made of grille and bulrush.
And of course we are proud that it was founded in 1915.

What is the history of your commerce?

Cestería Lino Palacios has been located at 21 Capitán Blanco Argibay Street since 2000, but its origins date back to 1915, when grandfather Lino Palacios started his business in Carretera de Francia, then ODonnell Street and later Bravo Murillo Street in the Tetuan neighbourhood. In the beginning the activity was SPARTISM, but over the years the business expanded into other items such as basketry, cane furniture, cordage, etc. Today it is the third generation that runs this business, which is so peculiar in the times we live in.

How has covid 19 affected your business?

Indeed we had to close completely on Friday 13th March and we have timidly reopened on Monday 18th May at half time and with only one person. We dont know if it will continue (we hope it will). For the moment it helps the tenacity, the sacrifice, the hours of dedication and a lot of effort, both physical and economic.

What services and products does your business provide?

We offer repair services for all types of baskets, shutters and antique chairs. Collection and delivery at home and installation and repair of shutters at home. The products are varied from all types of basketry, blinds, cordage, wooden articles, wine boots, corks, doormats and carpets, earthenware pots and pots, etc.
