Since 1845 the doors of Casa Hernanz have been open to those who are looking for almost anything.
But that is not the only thing. Whoever visits us takes away something more valuable: the family wisdom faithful to a business; the satisfaction of finding the genuine and that atmosphere, the aroma of jute and esparto grass, of what is handmade.
We are proud to have been able to continue with this family business, maintaining its essence, tradition and originality for all these years, and we hope to continue for many more years to come!

In the mid-19th century, the craftsman Toribio Hernanz opened a shop selling espadrilles and tools very close to the Plaza Mayor.
From rural and agricultural Madrid to the turbulent times of the civil war, the business was maintained by his successor José.
In the 1970s, the couturier Yves Saint Laurent rescued the glamour of the espadrille and the shoe entered the wardrobe of the exquisite.
Jesús, Josés great-nephew and current owner of the business, works at the counter with his children, as he has done for five generations.

It is a traditional family business that has been passed down from generation to generation.
We are pleased to be able to continue this legacy and continue to offer our customers those products that have now fallen into oblivion or are not easy to find.
During the months that the state of alarm lasted, our shop had to close completely.
Now, although we can be open, as there is practically no movement in the centre of Madrid due to the new restrictions that are being applied and the lack of tourists and onlookers in the area, the situation is not very favourable for the future.
In any case, we are going to do everything we can to ensure that a long-established shop like ours continues to open its doors every day.
Casa Hernanz offers a wide range of products.
In addition to the espadrilles, a small selection of which will soon be available online, our offer in the shop is made up of:
- Both synthetic and vegetable fibre cordage. Leather in various thicknesses.
- Traditional basketry in wicker and esparto grass, as well as decorative elements, carpets and blinds.
- Nets for ornamental, sports and construction use.
-Rustic weaving by the metre in natural fibres (jute, linen, cotton and hessian) as well as bags made from jute and pita.

- Cruz Roja
- Medicos sin Fronteras
