When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

We have more than 100 years of experience in the haberdashery sector. In this long journey we have been able to adapt to every fashion and every moment without losing our essence. Our commercial advice adjusts to the new times without losing the juice of traditional haberdashery.

What is the history of your commerce?

Founded in 1913 by Antonio Ubillos, this company is known today as "Almacén de Pontejos", under the name "Sucesores de Antonio Ubillos S.A.". We are specialised in haberdashery products, and we also have several articles of lingerie, shirts, clothing and home accessories.
Antonio Ubillos Baztarrica, the founder, was a young man from Guipuzcoa who came to Madrid to work as an apprentice in his uncles haberdashery. Founded in 1860 by the Madrid-born Ángel Caso, the shop was right opposite where years later, in 1913, 1º de Mayo would open its own haberdashery.

What is your professional experience?

As a family business, the legacy is passed on from generation to generation. Our teachers have been our uncles, cousins, parents and grandparents.

How has covid 19 affected your business?

In the last year, the way we sell has changed a bit. What you used to be able to touch and browse through in a crowd of ladies, you can now browse through an online catalogue in our online shop. Every day we use our website more and more so that people can get their orders home in just 24/48 hours. COVID has meant a before and after in a traditional business like ours. We have changed our way of working, through a system of shifts with which our customers wait their turn in the Plaza de Pontejos.

What services and products does your business provide?

We sell all kinds of products related to haberdashery. We try to have from the most classic to the most modern. We work with all kinds of needles, fringes, patchwork fabrics, threads, buttons... And a long list of articles for sewing and handicrafts.
