Interview to the commerce

When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

We are very proud of the traceability of the brands we have in the shop and the relationship we establish with our customers beyond the sale.

What is the history of your commerce?

Rughara opened in May 2012, to offer sustainable fashion, to give value to craftsmanship and to demonstrate that "made in Spain" or handmade is not incompatible with design.

I tried to combine all my passions; art, fashion, decoration and music in the same space.

The years and the need to give another alternative to fast fashion has made fashion gain ground over the others but we have not left them aside.

What is your professional experience?

I studied Performing Arts, while I worked in several shops and even opened one at 24 (1 year of adventure) in Burgos.
The theatre bug was still there so I went back to Madrid, soon I started working in advertising, in the media, for 7 years, until I decided to start a serious business and opened Rughara.

How has covid 19 affected your business?

Well, it has been very hard, I would say harder than the beginnings. Once again you have to take on a lot of debt, but now with a much larger structure that you dont know if it will be sustainable in the future.

We are a very close team and considering ERTE or redundancies has not been easy.

Shops like mine buy clothes 6 months in advance, clothes that we have to pay for if we have to, and that have just arrived at the shop.

In my case the relationship with the designers or showrooms is very, very close and it is very hard not to be able to pay someone who you know depends on that money to live this month, not 120 days from now.

Getting financing to be able to survive, negotiating with the landlord etc... has not had the expected results and what is coming up is going to be very hard.

What services and products does your business provide?

We are a multi-brand shop, we try that the brands that are inside, have values of sustainability and commitment in terms of labour rights and production. Fashion, footwear, accessories.

We also have an art section, ceramics, painting, photography and a vinyl shop specialising in electronics where we do streaming sessions with international DJs.
And we try to give the most personalised service we can.

What other NGOs do you collaborate with?

With several animal ones, but Las muy perras have done an expo to raise money, for example. And with Teta y teta which raises money for breast cancer projects.
