When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

KITI's mission is clear: to offer a shopping experience that surprises and delights, making every purchase feel special. I have created a cosy, carefully designed space where each piece has been hand-selected for its beauty and significance. I select a range of items, often from small independent businesses across Europe, many of which are founded by women or belong to minorities. My aim? To provide refined home accents, unique gifts and feel-good essentials that enhance the everyday.

What is the history of your commerce?

My journey with KITI started with a simple observation. After living here for three years, I noticed a lack: there were beautiful shops all around me, but none dedicated to offering unique and carefully selected items. This realisation planted the seed to create a space that did more than fill shelves; I wanted to invite customers to explore and discover pieces not found anywhere else in Madrid.

What is your professional experience?

With 15 years of experience in the luxury fashion world in New York, I developed my expertise in sales, assortment planning and visual merchandising, creating unique customer experiences and achieving results in one of the most dynamic markets in the world. After moving to Madrid, I spent the first few years helping women and English as a second language speakers improve their business communication skills. Just over six months ago, I brought my passion for curation and connection to life by opening KITI, a thoughtfully designed gift and lifestyle shop in the heart of Madrid.

How has covid 19 affected your business?

KITI has not been directly affected by COVID, as we opened after the height of the pandemic, but I have to say that much of my inspiration - and what keeps me motivated when things feel ‘tough’ (though nothing compared to COVID times) - comes from watching the journey of an entrepreneur I admire. He opened a small restaurant in Justice just before the pandemic, and despite the challenges, it not only grew, but thrived. Within a year or two, he moved to larger premises and eventually opened a second one in Retiro, with his business steadily growing. It is an example that no challenge is too big when you have the right team, the right products and a solid approach.

What services and products does your business provide?

Visitors to KITI will find a variety of products designed to bring joy to everyday life. Shelves are adorned with an evolving collection of textiles, ceramics, candles and other distinctive home accents, along with a curated selection of jewellery, fashion accessories and personal gifts. A standout collection is KITI's Ritual Collection, which focuses on self-care with palo santo, ritual candles and other wellness-inspired items, offering customers the opportunity to pause and connect with themselves.
KITI distinguishes itself with a range of thoughtful services: personalised gift wrapping, local delivery and even personal shopping assistance. The shop caters to a wide audience, from Conde Duque locals looking for meaningful gifts to visitors eager to take home a piece of Madrid's artisanal charm. Kat's vision also extends to online sales, ensuring that KITI's curated treasures reach an even wider audience.
