When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

We are a bookshop with strong roots in the Lavapiés neighbourhood, as all its members have been (or are) inhabitants of it. We are an original bookshop with a special charm as we are located in a food market and we offer culture at a cheap price. The compliments we receive from our customers and donors show recognition for a job well done.

What is the history of your commerce?

We have been in the San Fernando Market in Lavapiés since 2011, where we landed in its lowest hours, and we continue to resist as one of the few places that refuse to become bars. Opening a bookshop in what used to be a poultry and meat shop made perfect sense to us, offering a basic necessity, and also by weight, as it has always been sold in the market, without judging the content of what people eat, drink or read.

What is your professional experience?

The members of La Casquería are not professional booksellers. Rather, we are a group of people who like reading and books, and who have the pleasure and the mania to initiate collective and self-managed projects that try to give meaning to our lives and our environment.
