Cine Doré

At Calle de Santa Isabel, 3, is the Doré cinema, one of the survivors of the 1920s. The first Salón Doré opened on 19 December 1912, but the surviving building dates from 1923. The project was signed by the architect Críspulo Moro Cabeza, under the promotion of the industrialist Arturo Carballo Alemany. The Art Nouveau façade is its most spectacular feature, although the foyer, where there is a café, is also interesting. Its popularity declined as the century progressed, until it closed in 1963. Twenty years later the building was acquired by the City Council, which ceded it to the Ministry of Culture. After a complete refurbishment by the architect Javier Feduchi, it became the screening room of the National Film Archive.
