PLANTHAE
Interview to the commerce

When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

I am proud of my customers experience. When they come, they dont just buy a plant, they understand its history. They leave knowing the name of the plant, its origin, its past and how to enhance its present and future. It is a more didactic and scientific experience.

What is the history of your commerce?

I used to work in something completely different, in Patents and Trademarks in the Legal field, but guided by my passion for botany and anthropology I decided to launch PLANTHAE. PLANTHAE is a reflection of my home, my life and what I really like (plants, books and decoration). As Cicero said "if your library overlooks a garden you will lack nothing".

What is your professional experience?

The truth is that I am a bit of a dreamer. I have studied many careers (Geology, Archaeology, Anthropology...) and I spent 8 years working in the legal field until I decided to launch PLANTHAE. I started with a shop in Lavapiés, and just recently I moved to this new place because I needed a bigger space.

How has covid 19 affected your business?

I was in the middle of moving premises when the confinement started. I had to do events like Mothers Day and Mothers Day online and, as the shop was closed, I did the delivery during those months. I also took the opportunity to do plant care initiatives on Instagram which went very well. It has been a tremendous life experience, with a lot of uncertainty but it has allowed me to do things at home that I wanted to do, like writing.

What services and products does your business provide?

PLANTHAE is a plant refuge and cabinet of curiosities, in the central neighbourhood of La Latina, in the heart of Madrid. We have a bookshop section and I also give botanical advice to homes and organise courses and workshops to pass on this knowledge. I like to describe it as a "plant doctor", helping to solve problems related to possible diseases or light and temperature.
