Interview to the commerce

When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

To recover forgotten fabrics and give visibility to central Spain. The focus seems to be on the coastal places, but there is an admirable traditional and historical burden in the centre of Spain, in places like Castile and Extremadura, and I feel proud to contribute to making them known. Also when my village is featured in a magazine because of my work. It is a small village of 2,000 inhabitants, and being in the press is a source of pride for all of us who have roots there.

What is the history of your commerce?

I lived in a very quiet village, and I have an image of a wonderful curtain that separated the pantry of our house from the laundry room. It was a strong fabric with intense colours and it was from this contrast of images that Eturel was born. With a sewing machine and the fabrics of my village I started to make my own baskets. I created a web page as an initial showcase and I started to knock on the doors of the shops I liked to give more outlets for my products. At that time I made good friends who now accompany me in the neighbourhood. The guys across the street encouraged me, and finally this September I opened Eturel in Ruda street. It is important that customers come, see and touch my products. My shop is a workshop shop, which separates the same curtain that inspired Eturel.

What is your professional experience?

I worked 14 years in fashion for a French brand. There I gained experience in technique and management, which helped me a lot to run my own business when I turned to the creative side.

How has covid 19 affected your business?

Tourism is very important in this neighbourhood, and the months of confinement have slowed it down. But this time has helped me to reinforce the online part, which is a good thing for the future. We have a home line that has been very successful because, at the moment, people want to have more beautiful houses.

What services and products does your business provide?

We sell very resistant, natural and traditional textile products such as hessian, alpujarra or canvas. The products are 100% handmade, produced and made in Spain. For me it is very important to be able to personalise the shopping experience and, if needed, to advise the customer.
