Interview to the commerce

When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

We are proud of our firm commitment to leather and luxury craftsmanship. This is how you can describe the work of Sol&luna, a Spanish firm that has crossed borders with its leather-covered objects and furniture. We produce in Paraguay and Spain and distribute in the most exclusive places in the world, including our well-known shop in Madrids Salamanca neighbourhood.

The great secret is the combination of two worlds, on the one hand Paraguay with numerous craftsmen dedicated entirely to working with leather and on the other hand, the work centre in Madrid, where the design, finishing, assembly and quality control of the articles is carried out.

What is the history of your commerce?

It all began when Carlos Ortiz de Zúñiga, husband of Carolina Sánchez de Movellán, decided to buy a ranch in the jungle of the Paraguayan Chaco to set up a cattle ranch. But when he arrived, he discovered the possibilities of leather craftsmanship, which is deeply rooted in the area.

After this first contact, Sol&luna started its activity in 2003 with the original idea of using cowhide from the area, within the framework of a sustainable development programme. We started with a leather production that exclusively uses artisan techniques with high quality finishes and competitive prices.

What is your professional experience?

I studied journalism and worked for many years in communication agencies. I have always been in love with leather craftsmanship and at the moment it is my great passion. Spreading and making known "The Art of Leather" is a great personal satisfaction.

How has covid 19 affected your business?

The shop has been closed for two months to the public and this has affected our sales. At the moment, we have noticed that the public is keen to renovate their homes and there is a public that appreciates craftsmanship and unique objects.

What services and products does your business provide?

The Sol&Luna shop located in the Salamanca district has become the reference point for luxury craftsmanship in the Spanish capital. Thanks to the growing demand, Sol & Luna items have crossed borders and are also distributed in exclusive shops around the world. We offer a highly personalised service and have the capacity to design custom-made pieces.

Coolers, folding hunting stools, thermoses, trays, ice buckets, tables, chests of drawers, armchairs, chairs, bar stools and desks ...... Even a Citroen 2CV, a Vespa or a bicycle. "Everything can be covered in leather".

In October 2017, we introduced the new HO By Sol&Luna collection that turns tidiness into luxury; it is the only brand in the world to offer exclusive tidying accessories. We offer a wide range of products to put everything in its place and we bring back to the fore the values of traditional Spanish craftsmanship: leather or suede hangers, leather baskets in various sizes, shoe care accessories (shoe trees, shoe trees, shoe trees, brushes...), fabric and leather boxes for clothes, etc... This collection is completed by our design and production service for customised wardrobes and dressing rooms.
