Interview to the commerce

When you think about your business, what are you most proud of?

Passing on sewing to others. As well as showing this art that we are passionate about, we have the opportunity to teach students how to make their own clothes and appreciate the real value of the garments. In this way we help to raise awareness of the impact of the textile industry and help to reduce it.

What is the history of your commerce?

Our team is made up of professionals who come from different fields of sewing. We range from the more industrial to the artisan sewing that with hand stitches makes authentic works of art.

Together we have created a space where we can bring our workshops and create a school to continue transmitting everything we know.

What is your professional experience?

Arantxa started as an industrial technician and after being an apprentice in a haute couture atelier she fell in love with this facet.
At the moment she runs the brand "La Costurera Pirata" which fills hospitals with colour and empathy with her hats and accessories. He is also in charge of the academy and many of its classes.

Miguel designs, patterns and tailors exclusive models for that special event. His experience in haute couture and his delicate workmanship make each garment an ode to good taste.

How has covid 19 affected your business?

It has forced us to reinvent our entire strategy and studio space.

Given the reduction in fashion events, as well as weddings and other celebrations, we have the opportunity to focus on lines and collections for the coming months.

In the case of La Costurera Pirata, having the online shop has been an essential resource to continue the business.

In terms of the academy, our aim is to focus on each student and be able to offer them as much dedication as possible during the classes, so the fact that we have small groups has not been a problem for us.

What we have noticed is the decrease in the number of people walking around the neighbourhood, so we have focused our communication strategy on social networks to make it easier for them to get to know the studio and all the activities we offer, and we are also working on our website to make this access even easier.

What services and products does your business provide?

We offer all kinds of courses related to the world of fashion, from introductory sewing workshops to learning more complex techniques such as moulage.

In our workshop, we offer the possibility of creating made-to-measure garments for guests, brides... We also work as an external workshop for designers and students of pattern making and design.
